RockyPosted by DaveB (Exeter, United Kingdom) on 16 January 2008 in Landscape & Rural. I invested in a new Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle lens on Saturday after exchanging some of my old photography equipment, and took it to Lyme Regis in Dorset on Sunday. The wind was blowing a gale and rain was threatening the whole day, but I was well wrapped up and had great fun, especially with a new lens to play with! This is another HDR shot, a combination of 5 or so shots at different exposures. Although I was a bit disappointed with the resulting sky, the colours on the beach and surrounding hills came out pretty well I think! As always, comments are welcome, particularly those offering feedback and criticism on my images! (It's the only way I'll learn!) :)

Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaGorgeous composition, Dave. So many textures and colors. Super appealing. 16 Jan 2008 8:07am @Michael Skorulski: Thanks Michael the lightwriter from oosterwolde, Netherlandshi Dave, lovely image. with dull and cloudy weather skies do not want to cooperate. 16 Jan 2008 8:07am @the lightwriter: I know what you mean lightwriter! Thanks for your comment @Brites: Thanks Brites martie from JapanGreat HDR - and I agree with you -- the colours on the beach and hills is great! If the sky had been bluer I don't think it would have been so interesting - I'm sure the bluer sky would have been reflected in the water changing its colour. I think this one is great. Congrats on the new lens! I'm waiting for my new Sigma macro to arrive!! 16 Jan 2008 9:01am @martie: Thanks for your feedback Martie. I'm already in love with my new lens, even though it was an impulse buy! MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomGeorgous Dave, it reminds me of some remote part of Scotland, a wonderful scene brilliantly processed. 16 Jan 2008 9:22am @MaryB: Thanks Mary Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanVery well captured atmosphere of a day with gale and trhreatening skies. The angle you used affords the beautiful colours on the rocks and beach. Very inspired shot! 16 Jan 2008 9:45am @Japanalia: Thanks Japanalia! @Steven: Thanks Steven Shutterbug from IndiaI like this one... the starkness, I guess, is outstanding! 16 Jan 2008 12:21pm @Shutterbug: Thanks Shutterbug Sujit Sudhi from Hyderabad, IndiaI like it. I think you have no reason to be disappointed. I must say that you have put your wide angle lens into good use. 16 Jan 2008 1:21pm @Sujit Sudhi: Thanks Sujit Pouhou from Apeldoorn, NetherlandsIf your concern is about the sky one way to resolve this issue is to metering for the sky in spot mind to be sure to capture the total texturing 16 Jan 2008 2:15pm @Pouhou: Yeah I thought about that, or using an ND Filter. The sky did come out well in the underexposed shots used to create the image, but merging them brought it back to the flat grey that it really was! Still like it though! Ina from Krugersdorp, South AfricaYou did a great job here Dave! The lovely foreground distract one from the sky you are not so happy about - so don't worry about it! 16 Jan 2008 3:14pm @Ina: Thanks Ina kairospix from Singapore, Singaporelooks like fun working on the 10-20mm - might get it one day 16 Jan 2008 3:21pm @kairospix: I did play around a bit, but to no avail! Thanks for your comment Kairo Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaGreat work, very impressive. A ND filter would improve the sky, but not that much. 16 Jan 2008 7:28pm @Graham Russon: Thanks Graham standley from brou-sur-chantereine, FranceSuperb composition. I like the colour tones and the texture 16 Jan 2008 9:33pm @standley: Thanks Standley amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaHey Dave!! Finally back after my forced hiatus.... and still trying to get around to catch up with everyone. This is a most excellent image!! Not bad with the HDR. I've got 3 favs from all the posts I missed with some honourable mentions... but I don't have enough space for them LOL... I really loved your Stranded (so cool with the life safer), Twiggy #3!!!, and Branches!!! 16 Jan 2008 10:24pm @amy: Thanks Amy, welcome back! Rags from Plano, United Statesi agree, the color is really lovely. The concept is really awesome. A sea of rocks. 16 Jan 2008 11:09pm @Rags: Thanks Rags |
