Looming

Posted by DaveB (Exeter, United Kingdom) on 16 April 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This is my favourite image I've produced, as opposed to the best pic I've taken, in quite a while, as the original shot was pretty weak (as can be seen here!). I had a good idea of what I wanted to produce from it, and I'm really happy with the results, especially with the looming trees in the background. I'm just hoping it looks as good on everyone elses screens, as it's quite dark and I know shots look different on different monitors.

Also, out of curiousity, I used the legacy option when altering the brightness and contrast in PS on this shot. It worked out well, but I'm still not sure of the exact function of this option. Can anyone explain it to me?

As always, comments are welcome, particularly those offering feedback and criticism on my images! (It's the only way I'll learn!) :)

it gives a very lord-of-the-ring movie type feel. i agree, the original shot was weak. this is much better than the original shot.

Yes, it's amazing it has such an 'old' not quite genre noir but something similar, I can't quite pin point it, it's fantastic...good for you!!!

I think it's a striking image, with a nostalgic touch and its color, looks great.

Fantastic image and processing, the original shot was a throw away, but you brought it to life. This has such a great moody feel to it. Well done.

"Legacy" seems to alter the colors in a bad way, for making a lomo effect I know that we need to use this option... As I am not a photoshop expert you better read the explanation about it.

Definitely an old world look and feel, Dave. Quite brilliant, I think. But no idea about the legacy. Am curious about it now, though.. LOL

@amy: Thanks Amy, it gives some interesting effects if you play around with it!
