A rejuvination

Posted by DaveB (Exeter, United Kingdom) on 6 July 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

After a crisis in confidence and a shoddy laptop, I'm back! However, the laptop is still shoddy, so for the time being I'll be shooting JPEGS and posting unprocessed shots. This was quite fun actually, as I spent the day thinking about exposure and metering as opposed to be willing to tidy things up in Photoshop!

Anyway, this was taken on the road to Oban in Scotland. Thanks to everyone who commented over the past few weeks, I think I've caught up now! :)

As always, comments are welcome, particularly those offering feedback and criticism on my images! (It's the only way I'll learn!) :)

Great to see you back Dave :)
It's so easy to get caught up on the post processing tread mill, I thought for a while that it was way easier than taking time to fiddle about with the manual settings on the camera, using the P setting mostly, with the thought I can fix that under exposed shot later or what ever. I also thought it was kinder to my poor hubby, who tags along with me. In reality I spent so much more time on the computer, doing pp on the photographs, so not only was he having to patiently wait for me while taking photos on a day out, he was sitting alone, with only his guitar for company, while I was playing with processing!
I still crop and such, but it takes much less time now :)

I think you did a cracking job on this one Dave.

@MaryB: Thanks Mary, its nice at the moment spending 15 minutes posting my weeks photos as opposed to 4 hours, although I am missing the processing! Still, Its good to spend 5 minutes on a shot to get it right, very good practice! :) Hope your laptop feel better soon, mine is still terminal!

Love that capture of the water's movement.

Perhaps you should consider a Macintosh.

6 Jul 2009 4:05pm

@Steve Rice: Thanks Steve, and although I just bought an iPhone, I'm still a PC guy, macs are too pricey and too restrictive for me!

Beautiful swirls and interesting what you say here . . we get so used to the cushioning power of PP that we lose the precision in the moment . . I started taking shots in manual a while back and, boy, did I learn a lot !
